About

MN Writes MN Reads is a suite of resources that support local authors with online creation and publishing tools, and allow readers to access locally-produced content, free to Minnesota residents. We believe that libraries have a vibrant role to play in communities coming together to create and share books.

For Authors:

Create: Create, edit, format and generate print-ready and ebook formats for your book—all for free. Pressbooks is a DIY book design tool that enables authors and publishers to create attractive content using a wide variety of templates and formatting options.

Share: Once your ebook is ready, share it with library readers by submitting your work to the Indie Author Project for inclusion in Indie Minnesota, a statewide collection of independently-published local authors. Also, books selected by curation partners are available to participating libraries across the U.S. and Canada.

MN Writes MN Reads also facilitates the annual Minnesota Author Project contests, celebrating the best indie titles in adult and YA fiction, as well as Minnesota organizations and communities that are producing written creative works.

For Readers:

Read: BiblioBoard Library is the place to find new and diverse ebooks from Minnesota’s indie authors and select indie authors from across the country. Unlimited checkouts and no return periods, instant access to all titles all the time, and no library card needed.

Publishing is not one size fits all. MN Writes MN Reads resources may be used together or individually, based on your needs.
